The Larson Residence is a small vacation home on a remote site in western New Mexico. It utilizes sustainable environmental design and materials including passive solar design and an innovative wall construction consisting of large concrete blocks filled with insulating foam giving it a high R value. The design optimizes the majestic views of the site while providing solar heat gain in this high altitude site. The room layout was tailored to give maximum privacy for each bedroom, and give a spacious feel to the living spaces. The style of architecture is traditional, and fits well in the surrounding context. The Larson residence is currently under construction by Sun Bear Construction of Silver City New Mexico, a contractor that specializes in sustainable construction methods.
