Captivated by the way light defines and transforms the material world, Rae's work manipulates light using varying materials and methods that he has developed and patented, to define and energize public space. Rae creates architecture and sculptural installations that explore themes relevant to their context, and works closely with each client group to create a work of art that becomes an abstract portrait of their experience and ideals. As a licensed architect, Rae has created a broad range of art and architecture, including large-scale public projects that have given him an understanding of how to integrate public art into a building site and structure. As a patented inventor, Rae creates and develops innovative processes that guide the execution of his work. For Humanescence, Rae developed a system to illustrate over 6000 linear feet of stainless steel ribbon, and created a system so that the all of the 25' long ribbons would hang parallel to each other without kinking. For Element Dance, Rae developed a system to laminate glass tiles with a diffractive grating that would be able to be set into the bottom of a water basin, and for Lightshower, he created a water manifold that allowed water droplets to cling to the slender ribbons as they descended 26' to the basin below. Rae is very hands on in the execution of his work and has developed an unparalleled set of skills to design and execute significant public artwork and architecture.
